Goals:
 1) The students will learn about 7 continents and 5 Oceans. 2)Students will learn to participate in shared reading with teachers and classmates. 3)Students will briefly review North, South, East, and West.
Objectives:
 1. Given an unlabeled map of Earth, students will label and identify 7 continents and 5 oceans. 2. Students will read a social studies text on the continents aloud with classmates and the teacher. 3. Students will listen as the teacher reads a given book on continents to the class.
Materials:
 Document camera, smartboard and computer, continent book, lesson fill in the blank worksheet, guided practice Wordfind and Crossword, paper assignment for students to label continents and oceans for independent practice at home, power point about continents and oceans.
Introduction:
 1. Sing song or rhyme about continents. Have them join in and sing with me. 2. Facilitate coed competitive game as their pre-assessment. 3. Every 3rd round is for 4 points 3. I give a fact about continent or ocean, and student answers by saying the correct continent or ocean
Development:
 1.Distribute FILL IN THE BLANK worksheets. 2. As I teach, I will flip through original power point with pictures that I created to go along with my very brief lecture. 3. The worksheet will not have any answers. 4. Use inquiry to check students are successfully writing the answers in the BLANKS. 5. Repeat statements that contain the answers to their FILL IN THE BLANK. 6. Walk about the room to ensure each child has finished.
Practice:
 1. Distribute wordfind and crossword. 2. Instruct students to complete them within their already organized groups. 3. Remind them that FILL IN THE BLANK will be helpful to them in learning things better.
Accommodations:
 1. Sight: verbal instruction, working with peers to completed wordfind and crossword. 2. Hearing: PowerPoint images, document camera, handouts/worksheets 3. Learning Disability: working with peers provides extra support, I'll walk about to monitor and encourage progress, visual images on power point, and continent song. 4. Accelerated: Students can label countries, seas, and rivers that they are able to identify.
Checking For Understanding:
 1. I will make sure that students understand and are completing their FILL IN THE BLANK throughout the lesson. 2. Go over areas so that students can have another opportunity to hear the answers.
Closure:
 1. Have a few volunteer students get up in front of class and share their nationality, identifying the continent they or their ancestors came from.
Evaluation:
 We will evaluate students according to correct answers in FILL IN THE BLANKS and their response in the class.
