Teacher Name: | Calvin Star |
Grade: | Grade 6 |
Subject: | PE and Health |
Topic: | Soccer |
Content: | How to pass a soccer ball accurately. |
Goals: | Pass a soccer ball accurately |
Objectives: | Be able to pass a non-moving soccer ball accurately so that we can build off this skill and learn how to effectively pass in any scenario presented in a game situation. After the foundations of passing is understood it will be easy to learn how to: Pass a soccer ball with power, Pass a soccer ball while moving, Pass a soccer ball while dribbling, Pass a soccer ball to a moving target and even Pass a moving soccer ball with only 1 touch |
Materials: | Soccer Cleats, Soccer Ball, Pylon |
Introduction: | Set up a pylon 15ft away and have students line up and attempt to hit the pylon with a soccer ball. |
Development: | Explain how to pass a ball. Where should your planting foot be placed? Where should the foot make contact on the ball? Where should the ball contact your foot? Demonstrate how the position of your planting foot effects where the ball will go when it is kicked. Show how the location of where you kick the ball effects how the ball will move. Demonstrate how different locations of your foot effect accuracy and power when passing a soccer ball. |
Practice: | Have students stand in pairs of 2 about 5ft apart from each other. One partner should start with the ball and the other partner should stand with his legs spread apart. Each partner should take turns attempting to pass the ball through their partners legs. When both partners are able to pass the ball between each others legs 3 times consecutively each partner can take a step back and increase the distance between each other. |
Accommodations: | Language Barrier: If a student you are teaching doesn't understand English vary well it may help for you to show him what you mean instead of telling him. Demonstrations can be understood universally no matter what language you know. Have a pair of students demonstrate the drill you are going to be doing so he can see what you want him to do. |
Checking For Understanding: | Watch students passing the ball between each other and see if they are using the correct form. Tell students if they are passing wrong and show them what they should be doing. |
Closure: | Line up the students again and set up a pylon 15ft away. Have the students pass to the pylon and attempt to hit it. Focus on form and technique even if they don't hit the pylon because they haven't developed enough power it is ok as long as their technique is right. Once they get the technique down learning how to put power behind the ball will be very easy. |
Evaluation: | When they started how was their form and accuracy? How is their form and accuracy now? Do they understand what they need to do to be able to pass a ball accurately. |
Teacher Reflections: | How did the students take to the activity? How did their skills change? Were the instruction well understood? How successful were the student at hitting the pylon the second time? |
