 Driving is a common activity shared with many drivers, so it is important to drive defensively and to follow the laws of the road
Goals:
 Learn how to drive and become a defensive driver by learning basic rules and practicing safe practices
Objectives:
 1) Read the driver's manual to learn important road signs and driving rules 2) Learn the components of a car and how to start one; 3) Practice driving in a parking lot
Materials:
 Motor vehicle
Introduction:
 1) Ensure the handbook was read; 2) Demonstrate starting the (practice) vehicle
Development:
 Have student get into driver's seat and start the car
Practice:
 1) Have the student practice the basics such as starting/stopping/changing gears; 2) Have student get familiar with steering and maneuverability
Accommodations:
 Slow instructions down if student is struggling to learn at the rate of teaching; reinforce knowledge of rules if not well understood
Checking For Understanding:
 1) Introduce a challenging obstacle course for student to complete; 2) Quiz on important road rules
Closure:
 Discuss driving ability and rule knowledge
Evaluation:
 1) Have student try a new vehicle and transfer skills to that; 2) Have student complete test to ensure road rules are understood
