Content: | Bench press is an exercise focused mostly on the chest and slightly on the shoulders. |
Goals: | To become stronger and lift with proper form. |
Objectives: | - Warm up - Add weight to the bar - Lay down on the bench - Preform the exercise |
Materials: | A gym membership or a weight bench. |
Introduction: | Find an available bench press at the gym or at home. |
Development: | Explain and show the movement of preforming a Bench Press exercise. Allow the individual to lay on the bench and preform the exercise without weight added, just using the bar. |
Practice: | Have the individual add their desired weight to the bar and preform the movement. As someone stands behind you as a "Spotter", for safety reasons. |
Accommodations: | Use less or more weight depending on your confidence and your strength. |
Checking For Understanding: | Be sure you feel the movement stretching/pulling the muscles in your chest and shoulder area. |
Closure: | Discuss some unsafe mistakes that some people make. Also, congratulate. |
Evaluation: | Ask questions and pin-point where the lifter felt the exercise pulling. Write the weight, number of reps and sets so that next time you can upgrade your lift. |
