Objectives: | Experience hands on how to set up, maintain and care for their fishing rod. Should be able to recreate the process flawlessly after practice. |
Materials: | Fishing rod Line Spool Sinkers Swivels Hooks Bait Leader |
Introduction: | Familiarize yourself with the fishing rod and its accessories. Learn where everything goes and what they are used for. |
Development: | Explain step by step how to assemble the rod, order in which each accessory goes (line on spool, stretch out to rod, sinker, etc) |
Practice: | Bring out a rod - breakdown of rod, then begin to recreate step by step process and progress (visually) |
Accommodations: | There is not one correct way tie a knot, show different examples and give pro/cons to see which way people are comfortable most tying the knot. |
Checking For Understanding: | ask questions, if someone has a problem walk it through with them |
Closure: | give a small handbook / guide with step by step pictures written/drawn on how to tie knots, assemble the rod, order, etc. |
Evaluation: | Accidentally snap part of the line, levels can differentiate (snap on spool, swivel only, leader comes off, hook snaps, etc) and ask student to repair it. |
Teacher Reflections: | Reflect on how to make it easier for students to understand. improve on clarification when needed and positive encouragement. |
