Objectives: | Read the crossword hint out loud. Try to pronounce the word on your own. Try to spell the answer on your own. When a new word is encountered ask Mom what the definition is. Next time the word is encountered explain to Mom what it means to show you have learned it. |
Materials: | Crossword Puzzle Book. |
Introduction: | Crossword puzzles use vocabulary that isn't used in everyday conversation. They are a good way to learn new words and develop further knowledge in a given language. |
Development: | Develops vocabulary Develops critical thinking; sometimes questions are asked in riddle format so you have to think outside of the box to figure out the answer. Develops pronunciation and writing skills since you have to read and write words you have never seen before. |
