Content: | Some features we will be learning to use in headers and footers include: formatting page numbers, adding a date and time, adding document info, adding pictures or logos, using templates and removal of headers or footers. |
Goals: | 1. Students will be able to identify when to utilize headers and footers in documents 2. Students will be able to demonstrate the creation of a Header or Footer 3. Students will be able to navigate the Header and Footer tool to add page numbers and other data 4. Students will be able to navigate the Header and Footer tool templates to pick a template. 5. Students will be able to demonstrate the removal of a Header or Footer |
Objectives: | 1. Students will recognize when to utilize on future document creation 2. Students will be able to implement a basic header or footer in a document 3. Students will be able to describe how to add and format page numbers 4. Students will be able to describe how the header and footer layouts can be added or changed 5. Students will be able to add custom data to a header or footer 6. Students will be able to demonstrate how to remove a header or footer from a document |
Materials: | • Podium Computer/Projector • Word |
Introduction: | Go over various reasons of why headers and footers are used: A. Utilization of unused space, cleaner and more professional B. Examples of documents and what features are used in them |
Development: | 1. Open example1.docx which already includes a complicated header and footer, walk through what each item in the header and footer is and does 2. Demonstrate three ways to remove the headers and footers from this document 3. Show the multiple ways of adding a header or footer 4. Quickly go over each of the features available on the header and footer tool bar giving a quick detail about each thing. 5. Show the multiple ways to exit the header or footer editor 6. Demonstrate how to add page numbers and each position available 7. Demonstrate how to format page numbers to restart or start from a page that isn’t the first 8. Demonstrate how to use the Insert date and time feature 9. Demonstrate the various options available in the Document Info tab 10. Demonstrate how to add a picture/logo into the header or footer |
Practice: | Students will follow along on a new blank document and add page numbers, the date and time and a picture of their choice |
Accommodations: | A document will be available with clear instructions on what is required to be edited on the example1.docx. |
Checking For Understanding: | The example1.docx will be renamed, saved and handed in for evaluation. |
Closure: | • Go over why Headers and Footers are important • Go over why it is a useful to know how to use each of these features |
Evaluation: | The amount of proper changes done on the practice document given to the students will determine the knowledge was retained or not. |
