 Students will understandand identify the following: -The major events that led to the civil rights movement -The ideas behind "seperate but equal" -Identify Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks
Objectives:
 Discuss MLK's speech "I have a dream" and discuss whether or not it became a reality
Materials:
 -reference books -computer with internet access -writing paper -pencils, markers, crayons, erasers -index cards -handouts -poster boards -magazines
Introduction:
 Group discussion on student's ideas of the civil rights movement. What do they know about it? What do they think about it?
Development:
 Break class into groups. Explain what each group will do. Demonstrate google search. Pass out handouts. Discuss projects. Poster either detailing the key events of the movement, key figures and significance of figures in relation to the movement, or a collage of what "separate but equal" actually looked like.
Practice:
 Methods for research: Group A-reference books to research movement Group B-internet search for key events of movement Group C/D-read handouts and discuss in groups with teacher Group E-watch video Rotate groups after 20 minutes
Accommodations:
 Students will work in a variety of methods. They will work together on the group poster, present and discuss to the class. They will work independently on the google search and research books. They will work independently on refections of "I have a dream".

 Discuss as a group what they learned and how it applies to today's world.
Evaluation:
 5 point rubric 5 pts-Students clearly identified 5 key events, wrote well thought summaries and reflections of King's speech, and participated in the group activity 3 pts- identified at least 4 key events, wrote somewhat thought out summaries and reflections; participated in group activities 1 pt- identified at least 1 key event, incomplete thoughts and could not apply speech to modern world; did not participate in group activity
