Lesson Plan : Felicia Walker Lesson Plan Templat
Teacher Name: | Felicia Walker |
Grade: | Grade 5 |
Subject: | Literature Activities |
Topic: | Parts of a story |
Content: | Settings of a story, finding characters, drawing |
Goals: | The goal of this assignment is for the students to be able to read short stories and recognize where stories are taking place. By the end of this lesson the student should be able to follow along a story and understand the events of a story and follow with what the reading states the characters are doing. |
Objectives: | The students should be able to spell out the selected words from the story and be able to state where the events of the multiple short story is taking place. This will allow students to break down the parts of a story and recognize what and where the characters are. |
Materials: | Worksheets and poster board while the overhead projector is on will be the aids in this activity. After the students attempt for a few minutes on their own they will be allowed to work with a partner or small group of three assigned by me. |
Introduction: | For this activity I want my students to read a couple different short stories and tell me what the characters are doing and why they think that is. The students will start with a worksheet and once they finish reading each story there will be questions following the story. |
Development: | Once the students complete the worksheet they will be arranged into partners or groups of three assigned by me where they will discuss with their group members the answers. They will then be given one last short story and be asked to pick a character of choice and draw a picture on a poster provided by me with a paragraph off to the side explaining why they think the character is important in the story. |
Practice: | The students will have the opportunity to gather into small groups and discuss their findings. The person who wrote the paragraph will have help from other members in the group but during presentation time the writer will be the one holding up the poster while the other group members describe the poster to the class. |
Accommodations: | For a differentiated instruction to this activity I can have my students listen to me read a couple different short stories aloud to them and we answers question together as a class. Then the students may choose to work alone or in groups and will complete the assignment. |
Checking For Understanding: | After the students complete their short story character activity they will be asked to turn it in. They will be graded on effort of drawing and writing/reading skills. |
Closure: | Once I grade the activity the students will be handed the poster back. If any writing errors the students may come up to my desk and point out their error and be given back a point. |
Evaluation: | I will keep the scores of every assignment each of my students participate in my classroom. |
Teacher Reflections: | As a beginning teacher I will always be modifying my lesson plans to accommodate my student's learning. I may have to change my lesson countless times but I will do what it takes to help each of my students feel confident with their learning. |
