Lesson Plan : Math Time Fun

Teacher Name:
 Devan Biro
Grade:
 Grade 1
Subject:
 Math

Topic:
 Simple Addition and subtraction
Content:
A fun math game that will help the students learn math facts.
Goals:
practicing math equations getting a physical activity in the classroom.
Objectives:
The students will be able to complete simple math problems while using a number line.
Materials:
number line for the floor dry erase marker black board work sheet of math problems pencils
Introduction:
With the starting math block, the students will know it is math time. I will go over a few math problems with the students. The students will be using a number line outside (goes to 20) (weather permitting) so that they can hop and get their hearts moving.
Development:
Once everything is set up outside the students will break up into groups of two. I will have my own number line. I will explain the process. A math equation will be called out. For example 8+4. The students will start out at 8 and then hop four spaces up to make it 12. I will demonstrate this on my own and have the students watch.
Practice:
We will do the same thing together for four problems.
Accommodations:
If a student has a problem hopping, they can slide from number to number, or if they have a problem doing math they can get their own set of simpler math problems.
Checking For Understanding:
AT the end of the activity we will head back into the classroom. I will ask then what they have learned. We will also do more math problems on the board to make sure they understand.
Closure:
After a few more problems, there will be a quick transition into their science. We will stand up clap our hands and then sit down.
