Lesson Plan : Scientific Process

Teacher Name:
 Bryan L.Robinson
Grade:
 Grade 6
Subject:
 Science

Topic:
 Scientific method- Becoming Scientist
Content:
Using and scientific journal to teach scientific method. states will identifying how to apply the scientific method based on vocabulary. Vocabulary words to define-(Control,Prediction, Conclusion, Classifying, Measurement, Hypothesis, Constant, Variables, Experiment, Observations,)
Goals:
Variables in an Experiment: Describe how a change in one or more variables can alter the outcome of an experiment.
Objectives:
To understand the scientific method components through application. Students will be able to identify independent and dependent variables; and control and experimental groups; also if a hypothesis is every proven.Reading strategies and the same objects as above. To understand the scientific method components through application. Students will be able to identify independent and dependent variables; and control and experimental groups; also if a hypothesis is ever proven.
Materials:
Students will be the My life in Science Text book, Group project sheets, dictionaries, vocabulary sheets, and journals.
Introduction:
one student is visually impaired therefore will need all worksheets in larger font.
Development:
Read a scientific article out loud. Allow a strong reader to read out loud and have other students whisper read to increase fluency among slow readers. After each paragraph is read stop and identify the problem, hypothesis, experimental subjects and the collection of data, and analyze the results.
Practice:
Students will work as a group to define words, then will move on to the move on to group project worksheet to learn to identify variables and understand variable changes.
Accommodations:

Checking For Understanding:
Provide a rubric for students, so they understand what they are getting graded on. I also will have a sheet with each step of the scientific method and have student fill out all sections as it pertains the the article.
Closure:
Students will grade each others assessments then will have discussion to evaluate their understanding of of the subject.
Evaluation:
students will be able to explain what a variable change is compared to a control.
