Lesson Plan : My Favorite Day
Teacher Name: | Ms. Johnson |
Grade: | Grade 3 |
Subject: | Language Arts |
Topic: | Vocabulary and Concept Development. |
Content: | Choosing antonyms, homophones, homographs, and current vocabulary to incorporate in activity. |
Goals: | Students understand the basic features of words. They select letter patterns and know how to translate them into spoken language using phonics(an understanding of the different letters that make different sounds), syllables, word parts (un-, -ful) and context (the meaning of the text around a word). They apply this knowledge to achieve fluent (smooth and clear) oral and silent reading. |
Objectives: | Students will construct a story booklet using synonyms, antonyms, homophones, homographs, and current vocabulary words. |
Materials: | Construction paper, stapler, pencils, crayons, markers, dictionary/thesaurus, scissors. |
Introduction: | Students will write a five page story about their favorite day also including drawings as illustration. |
Development: | To model this activity each student will be provided with a step by step handout allowing them to tract each task completed. |
Practice: | I will monitor each students progress by reviewing thier step by step instructional tracking sheet. |
Accommodations: | To further given instruction I will show my copy of the My Favorite Day booklet to the students who need it. Providing a copy of my own booklet will help my struggling students understand what is expected from a visual model. |
Checking For Understanding: | I will assess students during the project by asking if there are any questions. I will willingly guide those students who need extra attention. |
Closure: | To close out the activity each student will be given a survey seeking answers on development, comprehension, and enjoyment. Furthermore, I will explain to the class the purpose of the lesson bridging it to the next lesson required. |
Evaluation: | Students progress will be measured by the accuracy of their booklets reflecting the concepts understood. |
Teacher Reflections: | I will reflect on the lesson by reviewing students survey feedback and comparing them to the grades earned. This will help me decide whether the activity was beneficial for the students. |
