Lesson Plan : Number Sense
Teacher Name: | Ms. Sallee |
Grade: | Grade 6 |
Subject: | Math |
Topic: | Converting fractions, decimals and percents (without calculator) *Standard MA.6.1.4 |
Content: | Fractions, decimals, percents, conversion |
Goals: | Students will be able to convert between any two representations of numbers; fractions, decimals, and percents, without using a calculator |
Objectives: | Once a student learns how to convert from one representation of a number they can switch to another. |
Materials: | White boards, markers, erasers; computers, headphones; worksheets; book; overhead projector |
Introduction: | As a whole class, use the overhead projector to go over the basic steps to converting a number. They may take notes to help them in their independent practice. |
Development: | As the teacher, I would show them how to do it on the projector or board and have them respond as a class. |
Practice: | Have different stations set up for students to work in groups. 1) computers for online activity 2) teacher works with a group on the dry erase boards with different numbers 3)have students working on a worksheet |
Accommodations: | Having them work in a quieter environment or not facing the rest of the class. Working with someone from outside of the classroom. |
Checking For Understanding: | Instead of having them turn their assignment in, they will hand their assignments as a group to another table to grade as a class. This helps the students see how other students are struggling or understanding just as much or more/less as they are. |
Closure: | Summary and overview of what we learned and just reviewing the main points. |
Evaluation: | They will be graded on participation at the most and understanding. The worksheet is the only thing that will be graded for points. |
