Content: | Choosing antonyms, homophones, homographs, and current vocabulary to incorporate in activity. |
Goals: | Students understand the basic features of words. They select letter patterns and know how to translate them into spoken language using phonics (an understanding of the different letters that make different sounds), syllables, word parts (un-, -ful), and context (the meaning of the text around a word). They apply this knowledge to achieve fluent (smooth and clear) oral and silent reading. |
Objectives: | Students will construct a story booklet using synonyms, antonyms, homophones, homographs, and current vocabulary words. |
Materials: | construction paper, stapler, pencils, crayons, markers, ctionary/thesaurus, scissors |
Introduction: | Students will write a five page story booklet about their favorite day also using drawings to illustrate. |
Development: | I will provide a step by step handout to each student allowing them to cross off each task completed. |
Practice: | I will monitor each students progress by reviewing their step by step handout. |
Accommodations: | I will show a copy of My Favorite Day booklet written and illustrated by me to those students in need of further instruction. |
Checking For Understanding: | I will assess students during the project by asking if there are any questions willingly guiding those students who do. |
Closure: | I will close out the activity by giving students a survey seeking answers on developement, comprehension, and enjoyment. I will also explain to the class the purpose of the lesson bridging it to the next lesson required. |
Evaluation: | I will measure students progress by the concepts understood through the accuracy of their booklets. |
Teacher Reflections: | I will reflect on the lesson by reviewing students survey feedback and comparing them to the grades earned. This will help me decide whether the activity was beneficial for the students. |
