 Use of synonyms, antonyms, homophones, homographs, and current vocabulary words. demonstrate knowledge and developement of grade-level words.
Goals:
 Students understand the basic features of words. They select letter patterns and know how to translate them into spoken language using phonics (an understanding of the different letters that make different sounds), syllables, word parts (un-, -ful), and context (the meaning of the text around a word). They apply this knowledge to achieve fluent (smooth and clear) oral and silent reading
Objectives:
 Students will construct a five page booklet choosing synonyms, antonyms, homophones, homographs, and current vocabulary words to include on each page.
Materials:
 construction paper, markers, pencils, crayons, stapler, dictionary/thesaurus.
Introduction:
 Students will write about their most favorite day and illustrate it with relative drawings.
Development:
 I will explain method by giving each child a handout of detailed step by step instruction allowing them to cross off each step completed.
Practice:
 I will monitor activity by checking students step by step handout.
Accommodations:
 I will show a copy of a five page booklet written and illustrated by me to those students who need more instruction.
Checking For Understanding:
 Throughout the activity I will ask if any students have further questions willingly guiding the students who do.
Closure:
 After the activity is completed I will gain feedback from students by surveying development, understanding, and enjoyment. I will also explain to them the total purpose of the story book bridging it to the next lesson.
Evaluation:
 I will measure students success by identifying the concepts understood by the accuracy of their booklets.
Teacher Reflections:
 Using the surveys collected from students will help me reflect on the activity. I will compare the survey and students grades to decide whether this activity was beneficial.
