Goals: | Conduct an Experiment: Design and conduct an experiment using scientific processes; identify the independent, dependent, and constant variables; various instruments used to collect and analyze data; and record-keeping methods |
Objectives: | To understand the scientific method components through application. Students will be able to identify independent and dependent variables; and control and experimental groups; also if a hypothesis is every proven |
Materials: | Scientific article, graphic organizer, paper, vocabulary sheets and a picture that helps students visualize the research, dictionaries 4 to a table, scientific journals made by the students, small group experiments, experiment process work sheets, My life in Science Student Text books, experiment materials as outline in the individual group experiments,scale, ruler, thermometer, scale, stopwatch, measurement practice sheets |
Introduction: | 10 mins lecture of the unit about the reality of |
Development: | 1) Students will be introduced to each tool of measurement, and will understand the significance of each. 2) will be taught the importance of following the directions and the definition of variable change. 3) students will learn to make observations to know if their experiment was done correctly |
Practice: | Students will work on measurement practice sheets for the purpose of learning to use different tools of measurement throughout the scientific process. |
Accommodations: | One student is a short person therefore I will be one group to work at a smaller table for ease of access for the student. |
Checking For Understanding: | Provide a rubric for students, so they understand what they are getting graded on. I also will have a sheet with each step of the scientific method and have student fill out all sections as it pertains the the article, along with a blank experiment process students are to fill in the blanks with the appropriate sections of vocabulary words defining the the process of the scientific method. |
Closure: | Students will exchange papers to be graded as a class followed by a class discussion lead by the students while I am evaluating their level of understanding. |
