Objectives: | The student will be identify tens and ones, using the first letter of their name. |
Materials: | Ten frames One units Photocopied tens and ones manupilatives on green paper 8x11 black paper white crayon for name scissors glue fill in the blank paper |
Introduction: | Reintroduce ones and ten using manupilative Use Smartboard to engage students in coming up with different numbers. |
Development: | Model activity using my first letter in my name and coming up with my number. |
Practice: | Write a number on Smartboard and have students use manipulatives to represent number. |
Accommodations: | 2-3 per group have them show use manipulatives/or give number and the rest of the class has to respond. Go around class until all groups have had a chance to share. |
Checking For Understanding: | Pass out green paper and photocopied tens and ones manipulatives. Students will use tens and ones to cover up letter. Students will fill out paper: My name starts with a _____. It take ____ tens and ____ ones, my number is _____. |
Closure: | Have students come up and show their letter. Compare those that have the same letter to make sure numbers match or off by one. Answer any question the students might have. |
Evaluation: | Give students worksheet with certain letters covered up and students have to write the number represented by the manipulatives. |
Teacher Reflections: | Number/letter activity should be completed in a small group lead by teacher. |
