Goals: | To have students learn the parts of their instrument including the D and A strings. Students will also know correct playing posture for guitar position and how to pizzicato with their right hand. |
Objectives: | Students can identify the major parts of their instruments and also demonstrate correct posture |
Materials: | Projector, Musical instrument(s), Book: Essential Elements 2000 Book 1 |
Introduction: | Have students sit in proper classroom location (designated by teacher with instruments on the floor to their right but still in the case. |
Development: | Explain that there is a proper way to open the case of the instrument(s) and there is also proper handling of the instrument that must be followed at all times. This will all be demonstrated by the teacher. |
Practice: | Students will open their cases and pick up their instruments in the appropriate manner as instructed by the teacher. Students will learn proper "rest position" and also correct "guitar position". |
Accommodations: | Students with larger instruments will be given a larger section of the room in which to work. Their instruction will be guided by close proximity and modeling. |
Checking For Understanding: | Students will evaluate a partner as they open instrument cases and demonstrate correct posture. |
Closure: | Have students write vocabulary that they have learned from the day and label parts of the instrument on a diagram. |
Evaluation: | Observation of students caring for instruments, using appropriate terminology, and demonstrating proper posture. |
