Objectives: | At the end of the lesson pupils will be able to : (a) recognize numbers 1-10. (b) order numbers 1-10 |
Materials: | Book: "One for Snatch" Mr. mouse the stick puppet Pupils would be asked beforehand, to bring their own stick puppet which they made during a creative lesson. Number cards Blu tack |
Introduction: | 1. Tell pupils that I will be reading a book to them. 2.Show them the books and ask to guess what it is about. 3.Start reading the book. 4.Before turning to the next page ask pupils to guess what their will be next. 5.Show pupils the illustrations each time we come to a new number and ask them to count these along with me. |
Development: | 1. Tell pupils we are going to teach Mr.Mouse the stick puppet to count. 2.Hold up a number card and make Mr.Mouse peek at it. 3.Ask Mr. Mouse to tell which number it is. 4.Give the answer using a squeaky voice.Go through all the numbers in order. %Make Mr.Mouse give some incorrect answers and ask the pupils to help him. 5.Make Mr.Mouse count from 1-10 pointing to the number cards. |
Practice: | 1.Ask pupils to pair up ensuring that each low achiever is with a bright one. 2. Tell pupils that they will have to teach their puppet numbers 1-10. 3. Explain how they should proceed i.e One pupil will hold his puppet and the other one the number card. The pupil holding the puppet will pretend to be the puppet and call out the number, when it is shown to him/her, in a different voice.Then they will change role i.e. the one who was previously holding the puppet will take the cards, etc... |
Accommodations: | Ensure that weaker pupils can manage. Help those who are having difficulties by asking other pupils: "Can you tell her/his puppet which number it is? " |
Checking For Understanding: | Ask pupils which numbers their puppet are finding difficult to recognize. |
Closure: | Teach the pupils the song: " One little Indian boy..." |
Evaluation: | Ask pupils to come and stick the number cards in the right order, calling out the number each time they stick it on the blackboard. |
