Goals:
 To have an understanding of the goals of the Preamble and to understand the main ideas of Congress and why it matters now.
Objectives:
 State Standards: 8.2.6,8.3.3,8.3.6 To evaluate teh goals of the Preamble. To describe the basic law making process and how the Constitution provides numerous opportunities for citizens to participate in the politicl process.
Materials:
 Constitution Handbook in the text book and workbook, curriculum video on the Legislative Branch, Foldable, School House Rock: Bill
Introduction:
 Reading of the actual Preamble and then a reading of a summary of the preamble.
Development:
 Definition of the word preamble walking the students through each line of the preamble discussing the goal that is established by the Founding Fathers. Discussion f which goal the students feel is important and why.
Practice:
 As a class read and discuss the Article 1 The Legislature. Underlind important informaiton as we go and stopping after each paragraph to discuss the important points. As a class answer the essential questions that corelates with the section. As a class complete the Legislative section of the foldable, filling in information about the requirements to be in Senate and House, the powers of the Congress,also how a bill becomes a law.
Accommodations:
 use of visuals, discussion, small groups, exteded time, clarification of words and reading, use of foldable to summarize information. Note taking as a class.
Checking For Understanding:
 Discussion throughout the lesson. Use of small group to question and clarify on a one to one basis. Review of main points of the lesson.
