Content:
 Social Studies/Science Vocabulary-- Time line-visual placement of events in chronological order Sequence- putting event in chronological order glaciation-covered with glaciers sediment-material that settles at the bottom of a liquid erosion-process of wearing away
Goals:
 The students will see visually how Yosemite was formed. The students will be able to see why Yosemite has the diversity of geographic features. I feel that the students need to know the how and why along with the cause and effects of the formation of the park--otherwise studying the park will have no meaning to them.
Objectives:
 The students will identify cause and effects= when the ice melts The students will gather information making an outline and creating a graphic organizer
Materials:
 computer white sheets of construction paper web sites: http.//www.yosemite.ca.us/library/geology_of_yosemite_valley
Introduction:
 Review what "ice age" (a time when glaciers covered most of the earth). Show pictures of Yosemite National Park's waterfalls, cliffs, mountain ranges,and domes through the computer that is hooked up to the t.v. screen.
Development:
 As the pictures are shown, the class will discuss how they think these formations were made or why they are there. The class will discuss the key vocabulary for this lesson.
Practice:
 The students will be given lap tops and various internet web sites that they can look up information. The students will use the "time line" work sheet to put there research in order. The teacher will walk around helping students with questions or concerns. Keeping each group on task
Accommodations:
 The students will be partnered high with low while doing the research part of the project. Each child is responsible for his /her own time line.
Checking For Understanding:
 At the end of each of the 3 class work days, the students will be quizzed on cause and effect-giving an example (yosemite park) and explanation, or on key vocabulary, or on a certain time period relating to yosemite and the ice age.
