Topic:
 The standards covered are: 1) Power, authority, & governance 2) Global connections. This unit of learning will take approximately 5 Blocks units.
Content:
 It will include reading in the content area concerning foreign-policy issues, and use of maps to help the students understand and analyze the relationships between arious countries and regions across the world.
Goals:
 Please see Junior Scholastic Teacher's Edition for the different goals at the different students levels. Students at lower levels will be able to identitfy diferent countries in a map, while other students will be able to make comparisons, obtain the main idea, note details, and make inferences.
Objectives:
 Please see Teacher's Edition for specific objectives concerning such topics as 1) Who's Who Among Govenment Leaders, 2) Maps of the World, 3) The World in Focus, and 4) Snapshots Around the World.
Materials:
 Junior Scholastic, maps, and handouts.
Introduction:
 Have students identify some foreign leaders and the countries they govern. Have them look up the country in the world atlas. Have students group together in two's, picking a region of the world and describe the countries therein.
Development:
 Read Junior Scholastic as per lesson plans drafted and mix in the differnt regions of the world as per group assignment. Work through the different activities in the lesson plans.
Practice:
 Use maps handoouts prepared by me to parctice knowledge of map reading, critical thinking making comparisons, and making inferences.
Accommodations:
 Allow students to trace world maps and atlases to identify differnt countries and regions of the world.
Checking For Understanding:
 Use probing and corrected materials with students to pry for retention of material.
Closure:
 Review Quiz together. Ask what has been learned. What else do they want to learn, give web sites for further independent studies.
