Goals: | To have the students understand the basic concept of avoiding harmful products in the household and how to differentiate between safe and unsafe products. |
Objectives: | To keep the students engaged and attentive and leave them with the knowledge of how to live well and be healthy. |
Materials: | Power Point presentation |
Introduction: | Students will asked what household items they observe parents or guardians using in the home and asked about medications commonly found. Students will then be asked what they do in the home when they find an item they are unaware of. They will be taught the rule of always making sure to ask an adult. |
Development: | Students will be shown images of common household items and how they may be confused with foods or beverages. They will also be shown chemical and biohazard symbols. |
Practice: | Students will be asked to go around the classroom and each identify 5 objects that could be harmful if consumed then asked why they chose those items. |
Accommodations: | Students will be given a sheet to take home containing the biohazard symbols shown to them as a guide for keeping safe at home |
Checking For Understanding: | Students will be given a quick review then reminded of the golden rule of always asking a grown-up. |
Closure: | Students will be shown a short video clip. |
