Goals:
 1.To teach the pupil the letters of the alphabet and to becoming automatic in alphabet sequencing. 2.To teach the pupil the sound and name of 5 letters of the alphabet. 3.To make the pupil aware of 3 tricky words. 4.To develop the pupils' phonemic awareness abilities. 5.To develop the pupils' visual discrimination abilities. 6.To improve the pupils' sentence structure. 7.To improve reading fluency and comprehension.
Objectives:
 1.Pupil will practice the letter sequence from a - m. 2.Pupil will learn the name and sound of letter 'a' and be able to read text containing these letters: s,a,p,t,i,n. 3.Pupil becomes familiar with the words I, he, the. 4.Pupil practices blending, decoding and phoneme deletion. 5.Pupil practices matching similar pictures. 6.Pupil practices making up sentences in the right structure. 7.Pupil reads a short booklet emphasizing the short sound /a/.
Materials:
 1.Handout for alphabet sequence practice. 2.Plastic alphabet letters. 3.Drill pack cards for the letters s,a,p,t,i,n. 4.Text containing the words with the above letters. 5.6 Handouts to practice the short sound /a/. 6.2 Handouts for visual discrimination practice. 7.Cards for sentence structure.
Introduction:
 1.Pupil puts the alphabet plastic letters(from a-m)in a sequence. 2.Teacher and pupil say alternate letters through the alphabet. 3.Teacher and pupil say two letters each, alternating through the alphabet. 4.Pupil sequences the alphabet from memory.
Development:
 1.Introducing the drill packs. 2.Drill cards are created for the letters s,a,p,t,i,n and practiced. 3.Short text containing these letters is read. 4.Reinforcement of letter sound /a/: Booklet Zac the Rat is read. Emphasis is on /a/. 6 Handouts are explained and worked out. Pupil writes 6 regular words with /a/ on small board. 5.The 3 unsound-able words are introduced and written on flashcards. 6.Blending and Decoding practice with words found in booklet Zac the Rat. 7.Phoneme Deletion Practice. 8.Visual Discrimination are explained and worked out.
Practice:
 Words for Blending: Zac, rat, can, on, ants, jam, pan, fan, on, had, ran. Words for Decoding: nap, rat, can, on, ants, jam, pan, fan, on, had, ran. Phoneme Deletion Practice: What word would be left if the /k/ sound were taken away from cat? What word would be left if the /r/ sound were taken away from rat? What word would be left if the /c/ sound were taken away from can? What word would be left if the /j/ sound were taken away from jam? What word would be left if the /ts/ sound were taken away from ants?

 Sentence Structure Practice: Pupil is provided with 4 sets of cards.The cards are sorted out in piles according to helping words, nouns, verbs,helping words, nouns. Pupil creates his own sentences and reads them. Emphasis is made on the sound /a/ whilst reading the sentences.
