Lesson Plan : Understanding What Angles Are

Teacher Name:
 Mousumi
Grade:
 Grade 5
Subject:
 Math

Topic:
 ANGLES AND TYPES OF ANGLES
Content:
Understanding the concept of angles, and types of angles. Learn to measure and draw the angles with the help of protractor. Angle is the intersection of two rays/straight lines with a common end point. Types of Angles- Acute, Right, Obtuse and Straight angle. Acute angle measures less than 90'. Right angle measures exactly 90'. Obtuse angle measures more than 90' but less than 180'.Straight angle measures exactly 180'.
Goals:
Students will understand the concept of angle. Recognize various types of angles by measuring the size in degree. They will also draw various types of angles using Ruler and Protractor.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this lesson students will be expected to measure the size each angles using protractor. They can draw using a protractor. Students will draw 2-D shapes like triangles, squares, rectangles accurately while understanding the concept of angle.
Materials:
Rulers, Protractors, flashcards showing the types of angles, A Poster covering this Topic, A miniclip presentation on this topic and worksheets related to this topic.
Introduction:
Ideas & objectives of the lesson: Teacher will draw two straight lines intersecting each other on the chalk board and give them(students) concepts of angle. Also give them the concept of various types of angles.
Development:
Teacher will use the poster covering the topic or show them the educational mini-clip with the help of overhead projector to demonstrate angle and types of angles.
Practice:
Students are given worksheets as in-class assignment to practice the skills or extend the knowledge on their own. Teacher will show students the flashcards, and students have to answer.
Accommodations:
Teacher will show them the educational mini-clip with the help of overhead projector to demonstrate angle and types of angles.
Checking For Understanding:
Teacher will ask various questions in the class related to this topic and students have to answer. Teacher will take a class test on this topic.
Closure:
Students may be given a plain paper, and asked to draw types of angles they know.
Evaluation:
Students will be expected to correctly draw angle and types of angles using protractor and ruler. Students will be expected to recognize various types of angles by seeing its picture.
