 Book Organization and Using the online automated catalog to find books.
Content:
 Library world, author, illustrator, table of contents, index, glossary, fiction section, non-fiction section, reading counts section, everybody's collection, dewey decimal system, call number, subject, keyword, and cover.
Goals:
 Students will successfully be able to find specific books in the library using the automated catalog Library World and find specific book information within these books. They will be able to find the author, illustrator, table of contents, index and glossary. THey will also be able to use this information to gleam understanding.
Objectives:
 Student Information Literacy Standards: The student who is information literate accesses information efficiently and effectively. Technology Operations and Concepts Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations. Students: a. understand and use technology systems. b. select and use applications effectively and productively.
Materials:
 Library World, Books, Book Organization worksheets.
Introduction:
 I will tell the students I have a fantastic book I want to read to them but have to find it first.
Development:
 I will use Library World on the SMARTboard to model how I use this technology tool to find the books record and locate the book on the shelves. Once I find the book I will model the main parts of the books to the students before I read it. I will look in the glossary for words I don't understand..modeling this to the students. For the younger students...Read aloud "The Magic Pillow" by Demi, Discuss who wrote the book and speculate why the author choose such a title for the book. Also model how to find out who illustrated the book.
Practice:
 Students will be put into small groups. They are to use two the non-fiction section of the library to find a specific book assigned to them. With this book they will find the author, title page, and table of contents. Then copy this information into a activity sheet.
Accommodations:
 Students will be put into small groups and assign specific sections for the students to look instead of the entire library.
Checking For Understanding:
 Checking to make sure students can find the specific books assigned to them and the information within.
Closure:
 At the end of the lesson, each student will come up to the SMART Board and use some of their books information to help desode a secret message.
Evaluation:
 The students at the end of the lesson should be able to demonstrate their ability to find specific books in the library using library world for the older students and state who wrote the book, the illusrator, where the table of contents is located and how to use it, and where the glossary is located and how to use it,
