Goals:
 Real Aloud: Jalapeno Bagels Create contractions using two separate words.
Objectives:
 TLWD knowledge of phonics by identiflying contractions and the words they stand for. TLWD synthesis of phonemic awareness by combining sounds to make words. TLWD knowledge of vocabulary by recognizing new vocabulary words. TLWD application of fluency by showing prosody while choral reading a familiar text. TLWD application of comprehension by using a script to follow directions.
Materials:
 Smartboard and Elmo
Introduction:
 Using the smartboard... open with Theme 5 Family Time...Does anyone remember what our theme is about? (people in a family learn and help one another)
Development:
 Phonics: Flash spelling words and ask for the two words that make up the contraction. Vocab: Review pictures and meanings to vocabulary Fluency: Fry phrases, High frequency words, and spelling words. Also read aloud the story. Comprehension: Review Following directions, example making chocolate chip cookies.
Practice:
 Phonics: Using dry erase boards to combine two words to make contractions. Vocab: Give two words and they figure out the third, using vocab that we have talked about. Fluency: Reading in different voices. Using blast offs and touchdowns to express the words out loud. COmprehension:
Accommodations:
 Advanced: Quilt with word, dictionary definition, sentence, and picture of sentence. Come up with their own list of contractions. Create their own questions and answers for the story. Proficient: Quilt word, definition from focus wall, sentence, and picture. Cloudy contractions they fill in. Answer the responding questions to the story and put the page numbers they found them on. Strategic: Vocab explosion with word, definition,and picture. Using a contraction word bank. Answer the responding questions and use pictures. Intensive: Words already written, they fill in definition and picture. Matching contractions Draw a picture of the story you just read and try to write one sentence describing your picture.
Checking For Understanding:
 I like to mix some of my checking for understanding in my closure. That way I can ask questions and lead them to the answers, as we wrap up and head into centers.
Closure:
 In phonics we talked about...contractions and how to create them. In Vocabulary we looked at...the meaning and pictures for the vocab. Fluency we worked with the weekly text which was Jalapeno Bagels. And in comprehension we worked with following directions. Let's see how well you follow directions during Literacy Centers...
Evaluation:
 Center contracts are completed and they participated in the class lesson.
