Topic:

Content:
As a teacher I will model and lead students through in finding nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs within a specific passage of text, from their literature study of "Ticket to Curlew".
Goals:
Students will be able to continue to work on their grammar and apply their background knowledge of nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs to a context of literature.
Objectives:
Behavioral- Students will be able to identify nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs and their functions within a specific passage of text from "Ticket to Curlew" - students will be able to indicate which word is a noun, verb, adjective, or adverb and be able to circle it on their own paper. Learning- students will be able to see what they have learned about nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs combined in one activity. - Students will be able to more readily identify what is an noun, verb, adjective, and adverb, and see how they create a more descriptive passage that paints a better picture in our head.
Materials:
Me- overhead, transparency of the activity, overhead pens Students- white duotangs, pencils
Introduction:
Anticipatory Set- "Tell me somethings you can remember about Ch. 12" - "Now who can tell me what they know about nouns?" (person, place or thing-building block) - "about verbs?" (shows action-building block) - "about adjectives?" (words that describe nouns) - "about adverbs?" (mostly describe verbs, many end in [ly]) - have them give maybe one example and point them towards the posters about them on the wall.
Development:
-"What we are going to do is what you have already done with each of nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs, by finding them within a specific part of your text." -"We are now just going to find all of them now together within a specific text." -"So you have already have had lot's of practice with this already, so were going to see how great you already are at this, it will just be practice for you"
Practice:
First we are going to read the first sentence and only look for a noun - a person, place or thing. - read the first sentence and ask who knows which is the noun.
