Topic: | The topic of this lesson is to build an understanding that the letter c has two different sounds depending on the letters following. |
Content: | Hard c Soft C vowels |
Goals: | Students will be able to tell the difference between the two c sounds. The children can determine which sound c will make when followed by a, o, u, e, i or y. |
Objectives: | 1) Children will be handed the worksheet with the hard c words on them and will color the pictures and write the words. 2) Children will be handed the worksheet with the soft c words on them and will color the pictures and write the words. |
Materials: | print off of two coloring pages |
Introduction: | Students will be told how a soft c makes a 's' sound and a hard c makes a 'k' sound. |
Development: | I will explain to the students certain letters always follow soft c sounds and certain letters always follow hard c sounds. |
Practice: | I will ask for examples of words that begin with a c and make 2 columns of each hard and soft sounds. I will write words on the overhead demonstrating their examples. |
Accommodations: | I will walk around the room and ask the children which sound goes along with the picture they are coloring or the word they are writing. |
Checking For Understanding: | I will ask the students which letters were common after the hard sound and which letters were common after the soft sound. |
Closure: | Wrapping it up we will make a list on the board of the letters that always follow the hard sound and the soft sound. |
