Content:
 Learn to ask questions in a library setting and following directions. Become familiar with vocabulary and methods of finding information. KEY VOCABULARY Reference, Research, Index, Catalogue, Circulation, Fine, Virtual Reference, Librarian, Interlibrary Loan, Tutorial, Web, Fiction, Non-Fiction
Goals:
 By the end of class students will have a working knowledge of their local library, its location and its general use. They will have familiarized themselves with the available resources and also gained the confidence and speaking skills to seek information in a library setting.
Objectives:
 Recognize the different parts of the library (physical layout, available resources). Interface with librians and clerks to access information or get direction. Follow directions that are given to them.
Materials:
 Large paper, pen/pencil, transportation
Introduction:
 Introduce activities of the day Vocabulary review and definition How many of us have been to the library before? Computer-use in library
Development:
 Complete library mapping activity to become familiar with an example layout of a library. Asking for help. Where do you go? What do you say? Dialogue
Practice:
 Students practice dialogue with one another - focus on pronunciation and cordiality. Following directions within the stacks. Brainstorm things to ask a librarian - topics of interest Drive to Lake Worth Public Library

Checking For Understanding:
 Meet in the upstairs study area to discuss findings and PROCESS of finding information, using classroom vocabulary. Did students find accurate answers? What new thing did they discover about the library?
Closure:
 How many of you will come back to the library on your own? Identify the closest libraries to your home? Check out 2 books before leaving.
Evaluation:
 Did students find the correct answers to questions? What means did they use? (Computer, Librarian, Classmates, Prior Knowledge)
