Introduction:
Class will begin with a set of statistics that point out the drastic improvement in the production of manufactured goods in Great Britain between 1700 and 1900. The following question will then be posed to the students: "What could have caused this drastic change in production?" Student ideas will be written on the SmartBoard, and the discussion will continue for 3-5 minutes.
Development:
After arriving at the conclusion that many factors probably played a part in the increased productivity rates, we will focus our attention on the most vital of these factors: the Industrial Revolution. Before logging on to the website, we will discuss as a class what we already Know about the Industrial Revolution and what we Want to know about it. These issues will be logged on our KWL chart on the SmartBoard. After completing the W portion of the chart, students will be told to go to the class homepage, and click on the link to the Causes of the Industrial Revolution reading. They will be given 15 minutes to read the article and look up any words, terms, or people that they are unfamiliar with in the article. While they are completing this task, I will put the already started KWL chart on the website for them to access later. After they have finished reading the article and looking up the unfamiliar vocabulary, the students will complete the KWL chart by saving it off the web site onto their portion of the hard drive.
Practice:
Students will then be given 5 minutes to complete the L portion of the KWL chart, by entering no less than 3 valid points. Upon completion of this task, we will discuss as a group some of the students' findings, and I will complete a master KWL chart which will later be placed on the web site for future access.
Accommodations:
Accommodations will be made as required in various fields. Students requiring reading accommodations will have all documents read to them. Students with writing impairments will have a scribe. In order to manage behavioral problems, seats will be assigned, all tasks will be appropriate given the achievement level of the students, specific praise will be given for successfully completed tasks, and proximity control will be used when necessary.
