I will open by discussing with the students the way in which media affects their lives. This will lead into a discussion about misinformation and ways of making information appear valid. Development:
I will examine different websites and discuss with the children what the differences are between primary vs. secondary sources. Will discuss the necessity of looking into the credentials of the author of the article. Will get the children to look for primary sources themselves and when a source is found will get the other children to point out the aspects that make the source either a primary or secondary source.
Practice:
Will get the children to look for primary sources themselves and when a source is found will get the other children to point out the aspects that make the source either a primary or secondary source.
Accommodations:

Checking For Understanding:
I will walk around the class and look into what the students are researching. Will have mini discussions to evaluate whether all the students understand the task and if their are any remaining questions.
Closure:
After setting the students free to research through the use of computers and the smart board, I will wrap up by reiterating the impact that misleading information and the way that a source can appear as a primary source can impact the thoughts and ideas of others to an detrimental end. The importance of looking through material in an organized fashion and critically thinking about the info will be reinforced and the lesson will end with introduction into the next lesson (where we will be using the technology we have come to understand to look further into the concept of political ideology)
Evaluation:
The students hand in a one page essay on the impact of misleading information through media. Using a rubric made up by the students, the essays will be evaluated and assessed on the number of credible sources along with the depth of the research.
