Available Teacher Resource Guides on Holidays, Seasons, and Special Events
There are eleven official United States federal holidays. Of these holidays, only six holidays (Christmas, Independence Day, Labor Day, Memorial Day, New Year's Day, Thanksgiving) are generally observed by all private businesses and government agencies. As teachers, we often incorporate the spirit of these celebrations in our classes. This section of our web site aspires to help you when preparing a lesson plan or unit on holidays.
- Back To School - The timing of this varies by your geographical location. In the United States and Canada this usually occurs between August and March. If you're from Australia it would be between January and February.
- Christmas - December 25th
- Cinco De Mayo - May 5th
- December Holidays - Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, Diwali, Rohatsu, Ramadan, Boxing Day, and Winter Solstice.
- Earth Day - Found in 1970 by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson. April 22nd is a day to return our appreciation to Mother Earth.
- Easter - Celebrated by Christian on the Sunday following the first full moon after the vernal equinox.
- End of the School Year - This section can be very helpful for teachers that are just about to wrap up their school year.
- Fall - Known as Autumn throughout the world.
- Father's Day - The third Sunday of June.
- Halloween - Observed on October 31st.
- Hanukkah - The eight-day Festival of Lights.
- Kwanzaa - The celebration of Black culture and unity.
- Martin Luther King Day - 3rd Monday in January.
- Memorial Day - In memory to those that gave their life for freedom. The last Monday in May.
- Mother's Day - The 2nd Sunday in May.
- President's Day - 3rd Monday of February.
- Spring Season - The transition from winter to summer. It's the season of emergent beauty.
- St. Patrick's Day - March 17th is the day to remember to wear green.
- Start of School - We provide you with an arsenal of great resources to kick start your school year.
- Thanksgiving - Celebrated on the 4th Thursday in November in the United States. On the 2nd Monday in October, this harvest festival is observed in Canada.
- Valentine's Day - The commemoration of love and affection is celebrated on February 14th annually.
- Veterans Day - A United States federal holiday that is observed on November 11th.
- Winter - The coldest season of the year that yields the least hours of daylight of all seasons.
