Lesson Plan Title : Compound Word Heart Match

Age Range: Kindergarten through grade 2 (Early Elementary)

Overview and Purpose: This matching activity helps students practice making compound words. Students make compound words by matching hearts that have been divided in half with one word written on each half.

Objective: The student will be able to match hearts with different words on them to make compound words.

Resources:

Paper hearts cut in half-enough for each student to have one-half

Activities:

On the right half of the hearts, write one-half of a compound word. Pass them out to the students. Explain that you are going to put the left side of a heart on the board. If they have the matching half of the compound word, they should raise their hand. Then, have them come up and tape their half of the heart next to yours.

Wrap Up:

For homework, you can use a worksheet that has three hearts divided in half with one half of a compound word written on each half. Have the students cut the hearts out, match the correct pieces together, and glue them on another piece of paper.
