Lesson Plan Title : Measuring Using Leaves

Age Range: Kindergarten through grade 2 (Primary)

Overview and Purpose: In this activity, students use different sized leaves to measure various objects. It is a fun way to introduce units of measure.

Objective: The student will be able to measure different objects in the room using leaves of various lengths.

Resources:

Fall leaves of varying lengths

Teacher created worksheet

Various objects for the students to measure

Activities:

Have students work in pairs or groups of three to measure different objects in the room using various sized leaves. They can measure the size of their desk with two different leaves or how long one of their arms is with three different leaves. After they have completed the worksheet, come back together and talk about their findings.

Wrap Up:

Students will enjoy taking a walk to choose the leaves they want to use. You can have them draw the leaves that they use above each column.
