Lesson Plan Title : Word Family Nuts

Age Range: Kindergarten through grade 2 (Primary)

Overview and Purpose: This review activity helps students practice their word families. They have to match the correct words written on acorns to the correct word family written on a squirrel.

Objective: The student will be able to match the correct words with their word families.

Resources:

Laminated paper squirrels and acorns

Activities:

Write one word family on each squirrel's tail. Write three or four words that belong in that family on different acorns. Tape the squirrels on the whiteboard and have different children choose an acorn from a paper bag. Have them read the word and tape the acorn under the correct squirrel.

Wrap Up:

This activity can also be done in a learning center. It can also be extended by having the students complete a word family worksheet for homework. Have four squirrels with word families on the paper and twelve acorns with words on them across the bottom of the page. Have the students cut out the acorns and glue them on the correct squirrel.
