Had a Dinner Party....- A multidisciplinary unit focused on biography/autobiography.
- Integrated
Learning with an AM Radio- Students will learn about local and regional
US geography through the use of a simple AM radio at home in the evening.
- Inventions,
Puppets, and Commercials- The student will think scientifically,
from the problem stage through to a conclusion and completion of an
invention.
- Jack
and the Beanstalk- The children plant seeds and watch them grow.
They are able to identify the parts of a living plant rather than a
picture. They draw, write, and perform "Jack and the Beanstalk" in addition
to reading it.
- Junk
Mail Airmail- Students need to learn that they can make a contribution
to the junk mail problem.
- Knowledge
From The News- Students will become familiar with newspapers.
- Let's
Talk Trash- The purpose of this lesson is to increase the awareness
of the elementary age student as to the need for solid waste management
of the environment and to give a sense of individual and community responsibility
and control over the world.
- The
Little Red House- Students come into the classroom at different
readiness levels; therefore, developmental activities need to be presented
that will help the child succeed in academic areas.
- Little
House on the Prairie-The students will be able to list the states
the Ingalls family passed through during their journey.
- Making
Classroom Rules- Students sometimes do not understand why we have
a rule and therefore being an adolescent, does not respect the rules.
If students take part in making their own rules they may find it easier
to follow them.
- Man
From Mars- In this game, the students have free reign on who gets
called by the man from mars to run to the other side.
- Me
and Mr. Platt- The students meet a most unusual visitor who makes
them work hard and enjoy it, too!
- Millions
of Cats!- The children will listen to and enjoy good literature.
They will respond to it by using a variety of means. They will draw
or write in Spanish or English or both.
- Moccasin
Making- Students will make moccasins.
- Moods
with the Weather- The children will be able to identify their feelings
in relation to the weather.
- Motivation:
Using Your Best Means of Communication- Students demonstrate understanding
of the lesson taught, (book read) in the medium of their choice.
- Music
Alphabets- Children will learn the alphabet.
- Musical
Shapes- Students will identify six basic geometrical shapes using
musical instruments in a "feely bag".
- My
Skin- A hands-on, technology-integrated lesson on the skin for second
or third graders.
- My
Town's Wall Quilts- This activity is a continuation of studying
about my Town. Students are learning about the community they live in
and it's different components such as people, industry, entertainment,
services, laws, education, etc.
- Native
Americans- This is primarily social studies/history focused by a
variety of interdisciplinary activities which are provided.
- Native
American Interdisciplinary Educational Unit- To help children understand
that what they see in movies and television is make believe and Hollywood
scenarios and not the real life of the Native American, I teach this
unit.
- A
New Way to Tell Time- The students will have a better concept of
time.
- Newspaper
Compare/Contrast- The students will identify the difference between
comparison and contrast. The students will be able to write their own
individual comparison & contrast paragraphs.
- Newsworthy
Paper-Mache Puppet Heads- Students will create a puppet head that
fits the chosen role.
- Oral
Reports through 'Personality Bags'- Student's oral reports on biographies
are enhanced by the use of a "personality bag". Students select objects
that reflect the attributes of the personality in their book.
- Organization
of a Newspaper and the Parts of the News- To demonstrate understanding
of news articles by using prior knowledge and creativity.
- Peace
Begins With You- To look at peace at home and compare it to peace
throughout the world.
- People,
Places, and Events- Students often lack the motivation necessary
to learn instructed information so that it is understood and not just
"momentarily memorized." People, Places, and Events provides a tool
to create a competitive, yet cooperative and enjoyable atmosphere in
which students will actually want to learn information.
- Ping-Pong,
Cling-Clong- To teach students problem solving skills and cooperative
team building while keeping emotions in check.
- The
Planets- Familiarize non-native speakers of English with the concepts
and vocabulary related to the planets, in the context of a unit about
the solar system.
- Plant
Dyes- Students will be able to use plant materials to create various
colored dyes and will be able to use these dyes to create a painting
and/or dye cloth.
- Problem
Solving: A Part of Everyday Thinking- The purpose of this activity,
used as an introduction to a course at the very beginning of the year
or an introduction to any unit of study, is to help students master
the process of applying critical thinking to each and every problem/task
that confronts them in their daily undertakings.
- Problem
Solving and the Sports Page- Realizing that my students knowledge
of sports is limited, I decided to suit my purposes in problem solving
yet also help them additionally in their understanding of the fundamentals
of various sports.
- The
Process of Sequencing: A Picture Card Game Activity- Practice with
this activity allows students to use meta-cognition in a structured
setting as it relates to success with sequencing.
- Pumpkin
Patch- The project will show the students how to be responsible
when working with others and with scissors.
- Raw
Materials/Natural Resources + Man's Technology = Consumer Goods-
Students study a variety of nature's raw materials/resources (nearby/far-removed),
selected technology (machines, tools, processes), and a variety of consumer
goods.
- Reading
a Newspaper- To recognize and analyze the different parts and purpose
of a newspaper article.
- Reading
Method for Hispanic Bilingual Kindergarten Students- To develop
students' knowledge of word meanings in second language instruction
and their ability to increase vocabulary.
- Reading,
Writing, and Math in Daily Living- To help students better understand
the practical application of reading, math, and writing in a daily living
skill and working cooperatively with fellow classmates in order to complete
a task.
- Relaxation
Warm-up- To have the students relax so that they are more receptive
to the second language and have more confidence while forming unique
sentences.
- Science
and Writing- To conceptualize key ideas to formulate search statements.
- Scrambled
States- Students will be learning about the different characteristics
of each state and we will reenact a story that will be read.
