Lesson Plan Title : Winter Animal Match

Age Range: Kindergarten through Grade 2 (Lower Elementary)

Overview and Purpose: This is a fun game students can play to learn about animals and their winter homes. Each student is given a card that has either an animal or a home on it. They have to find the student that has the matching one.

Objective: The student will be able to match the correct animal with its winter home.

Resources:

Cards cut from heavy cardstock and laminated. Each pair of cards should have a picture of an animal and a picture of the animal's winter home.

Activities:

Mix the cards up and lay one card on each student's desk, face down. When you give the signal, have the students look at their cards. They should then try to find the student with the matching card. When they have found their partner, they should hold the cards in the air. Go around the room and have the students tell the class which animal and home they have. When everyone has had a turn, mix up the cards and play again.

Wrap Up:

You can also put the cards in a science center and the children can play a memory game with them.
