Lesson Plan Title : The Meaning of Flowers

Age Range: Grade 9 through grade 12 (High School)

Overview and Purpose: Students learn about the age old art of sending messages through flowers. They have to put together a bouquet that conveys a message of love or friendship.

Objective: The student will be able to put together a bouquet of flowers for a friend or loved one based on the meaning of each flower.

Resources:

Internet access for each student

Activities:

Explain to your students that different colors and types of flowers have different meanings. Ask your students if they know any of the meanings. Explain that they're going to put a bouquet together of different flowers to convey a message to a friend or loved one. The bouquet should contain at least five different flowers. Students can use the Internet to research the meanings of different flowers. They should draw a picture of their bouquet with the meanings written under it.

Wrap Up:

If students don't like to draw, consider allowing them to use the computer to create their bouquet. Remind students that their message should be appropriate for school and should not be directed towards someone they know would not want it.
