Lesson Plan Title : Let's Go Golfing

Age Range: Grade 9 through grade 12 (High School)

Overview and Purpose: Students create their own golf courses in this activity. They are free to be as creative as they like and are even encouraged to make a scale model of the course.

Objective: The student will be able to design a golf course to scale for Father's Day.

Resources:

Grid paper

Ruler

Pencil

Internet access for small groups of students

Activities:

Have the students work in small groups researching and taking virtual tours of golf courses. They should note the distances for each hole and the layout of the courses. When they are ready, have them draw a 3 hole course to scale. The course can be as easy or as challenging as they like but should include water and/or sand traps, tee boxes, and greens.

Wrap Up:

Have the students present their courses to the rest of the class. This activity could expand into English and Art. The students could create a scale model and develop advertising materials to market their new courses. The materials and courses could be on display for teachers and students to vote on their favorite.
