Lesson Plan Title : How big is the Egg?

Age Range: Grade 9 through grade 12 (High School)

Overview and Purpose: Depending on where you look Easter bunnies vary in size, yet the Easter eggs stay the same. In this math activity, students create Easter eggs that are in proportion to the size of the Easter Bunny children see at the mall.

Objective: The student will be able to create an egg that is proportionate in size to the traditional Easter Bunny that children see in the mall.

Resources:

Pictures from the traditional cartoons that show the Easter Bunny hiding Easter eggs

Pictures of an Easter Bunny at the mall

Rulers

Activities:

Show the students the picture of the Easter Bunny hiding Easter eggs. Have them look at how big the eggs are in proportion to the Easter Bunny. Then show them a picture of the Easter Bunny at the mall. Challenge them to figure out how big the Easter eggs should be to keep the same proportions.

Wrap Up:

After students have the answer, they can make a paper model of the correct sized egg. Then have students share the formula they used to solve the problem.
