Lesson Plan Title : A Sculpted Fiesta Feast

Age Range: Grade 6 through grade 8 (Middle School)

Overview and Purpose: Students are able to get messy as they create a traditional Mexican feast using sculpting clay and paint.

Objective: The student will be able to sculpt food from clay to represent a traditional food found at a Mexican feast.

Resources:

Clay/model magic

Sculpting tools

Kiln-optional

Paint and paint brushes

Activities:

Have students use clay to create foods commonly found at a traditional Mexican feast. After their sculptures have dried, have them paint them. You could then set a table with their feast and have them take pictures of it or draw it.

Wrap Up:

Students may need to use the Internet to do some research or look at pictures to be able to choose which foods they want to create. Students could also complete this activity using paper mâche and making larger than life foods.
