Have students spend time researching the battle that took place in Mexico on the 5th of May. Have them pay attention to what the landscape looked like, what types of weapons were used, and how many people were involved. Then have them recreate a scene from the battle on a piece of paper. Encourage them to use as much factual information in the drawing as they can. When they are finished, have them share their drawings with the class.
This activity could be extended by having students write one or two paragraphs about the scene they chose from the battle. This activity could also be completed in mural form with each student or group of students depicting a different scene of the battle.
