Lesson Plan Title : Pyramid Matching Game

Age Range: Kindergarten through Grade 2 (Early Elementary)

Overview and Purpose: In this lesson, students have to match the correct food to its place on the pyramid.

Objective: The student will be able to match food to the correct category on the food pyramid.

Resources:

Food pyramid

Pictures of different foods from all the food groups

Activities:

Hang the food pyramid on the wall of the classroom. Pass out a picture of a food from one of the food groups to each student. Have them come up one at a time and put their picture where it belongs on the pyramid. Talk about the pyramid. (Why there are more foods on the bottom than on the top? What are 'fats'?)

Have students draw their own food pyramids using pictures of food that they like for each group.

Wrap Up:

This activity can be kept in a center for students to practice with. Write the correct food group on the back of each food so students can check their work.
