Age Range: Grade 3 through Grade 5 (Elementary)
Overview and Purpose:This is a good activity to do in the beginning of the year. Students have an opportunity to tell about themselves in a fun and different way.
Objective: The student will be able to tell the class about himself using five objects as prompts.
One brown grocery bag per student
Ahead of time prepare a paper bag with five things that tell about you (i.e. volleyball, Milky Way, scarf, etc). Tell what each item says about you as you pull it out of the bag. Pass the bags out to each student and have them make a list about the things they can put in them. Have the students take the bags home and bring them back taped shut with the items inside. Give each student time to present their items to the class.
You can also have the class guess how each item might represent the student before he tells about it. If you do it that way, you will want to review polite behavior with the class.
