Lesson Plan Title : Tongue Twist Mania

Age Range: Grade 3 through Grade 5 (Elementary Level)

Duration: 45 minutes

Description: This lesson introduces students to the concept of alliteration through tongue twisters.

Goals:

Students will understand alliteration in context.

Objectives:

After listening and trying some tongue twisters students will make some of their own.

Materials:

Whiteboard

Markers

Tongue Twisters

Paper

Pens

Activities:

Begin by having students repeat the tongue twister toy boat. Have them say it over and over again. It is not as easy as it seems. Then read the book Dr. Seuss Oh Say Can You See After this introduce the students to the word alliteration. Explain that the beginning sounds of the tongue twisters is alliteration.

Have students pick a letter of the alphabet. Have them divide a piece of paper up into 4 columns and label the columns adjective, noun, verb, adverb.

Next have students make a tongue twister of their own using whatever letter they have chosen.

Assessment:

Make sure that students understand alliteration and beginning letter sounds. Examine their first tongue twisters and then have them write another one.
