Activities:

Have a selection of children's books for the students to read through. Spend at least 20 minutes allowing the students to read through the books to get an idea of what they are going to be doing.

Students brainstorm ideas for a child's book. Create a list of ideas on the board or on chart paper.

Show students the steps of the book which are the rough draft, the mock up, and the final draft.

Students begin working on the rough draft.

When finished they use peer editing

When they are finished they begin a mock up of the book where they combine text and illustrations.

When finished with this, the teacher will need to go over the mock up for edits and correct illustrations.

After teacher approval, the students can begin final draft

Assessment: Book is free of errors and illustrations correlate with text.
