Lesson Plan Title : Lily Pad Letters

Age Range: Grade 3 through Grade 5 (Elementary Level)

Overview and Purpose : Incorporating game play with spelling words can make this lesson more exciting for students!

Objective: The student will be able to spell a word by jumping on the correct lily pad letters taped to the floor.

Resources:

Paper lily pads (laminated and with one letter on each pad)

Activities:

Tape the lily pads in a random order on the floor. They should be spaced so that students can reach them all by stepping or jumping. Give a student one of the spelling words and have him jump on the correct letters to spell it.

You can make the game competitive by having two teams with two sets of letters. The first student to jump on all the correct letters wins a point for his team.

Closure:

You can add the lily pads and index cards with the spelling words written on them to your language center. Tape the cards to the floor before class and have students practice jumping on the letters to make their spelling words.
