Lesson Plan Title : Storytelling

Age Range: Grade 6 through Grade 8 (Middle School Level)

Overview and Purpose : Storytelling is a great way to pass along family traditions and stories. In this activity, students share a family story with their class.

Objective: The student will be able to memorize and share a family story with the class.

Activities:

Introduce this activity by sharing one of your family traditions. Tell the story using props, voice changes, and with dramatic flair. Have the students critique what you did during the story that held their attention. Discuss with students why storytelling is such an important art.

Explain that they are going to talk to their parents and grandparents about a family story and then share it with the class. Pass out the worksheet and have them use it as a guide to help them plan and practice their story.

You can do this project at the beginning and the end of the year. If you videotape both presentations, students will enjoy seeing how they changed over the year.
