Objective: The student will be able to name some modern day activists who are promoting civil rights around the world.

Resources:

Internet access for each student

Activities:

Have students use the Internet to search for people who are promoting civil rights around the world. Have them choose one of the people, research them in depth, and write a report. Have the student include how this person is fighting for civil rights, motivating others to do the same, and what persecution they are facing. Have them present the report to the class.

Wrap Up:

Students could also put together a Power Point presentation for their report. More advanced students could extend this activity by creating a projected outcome of this person's activities. They could include charts and graphs based on statistical and historical data that shows changes that have been made or possibly will be made within the culture.
